First substantiated record of slender goby Gobius geniporus (Osteichthyes: Gobiidae) from the Syrian coast (Eastern Mediterranean Sea)

A specimen of slender goby Gobius geniporus Valenciennes, 1837 was caught on 21 February 2021, from the Syrian coast at a depth 13 m. This measured 87 mm in total length and weighed 6.89 g. The present finding represents first record G. confirms species occurrence Levant Basin, eastern region Mediterranean Sea.

Two specimens of Valenciennea helsdingenii (Bleeker, 1858) were collected off Punnakayal coast, from Gulf of Mannar, southeast coast of India in November 2012. The morphometric and meristic characters of the recorded specimens are described and discussed. This is the first record of the species from the Indian waters that is a range extension of its known range within the Indian Ocean.
